Maria Vahervuo
I was born in Helsinki, Finland. I started the Alexander Technique (AT) when I moved to The Netherlands for music studies at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. When joining the AT class I hoped that the technique would improve my double bass playing. Soon I noticed that the lessons were also having an impact on my whole being and life in general in a positive way. After several years of intense practice of the AT I decided to train as a teacher myself.
I'm giving private lessons and workshops at the studio Alexander Techniek Amsterdam since 2011. I’m also teaching professional musicians at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Aachen, Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Novia University of Applied Science and occasionally taking part in scientific research about the Alexander Technique and embodied psychology. Besides the Alexander Technique and music, I'm am an enthusiast sea kayaker. You can spot me frequently in the waves in Zandvoort and the Dutch coastline.
My motivation as a teacher is to help my students reach their full potential in all areas of life. This includes recovering from complaints, managing pain or living with a chronic disease to coaching high performance and practising in sport, art and business.
